Stimulation Chemistry
Stimulation chemistry produced by Flotek Chemistry include a comprehensive array of chemistry for every well stimulation challenge. Our products include the biodegradable Complex nano-Fluid® technology suite as well as acid corrosion inhibitors and acid systems, buffers, clay control, fluid loss control, friction reducers, iron control, non-emulsifiers, surfactants and many more.
Anti-Sludgers prevent the formation of acid sludge by forming a chemical barrier between asphaltene and acid to retard precipitation of asphaltene particles. Product selection will depend on crude oil type, acid strength and application temperature.
Acid Corrosion Inhibitors are used to coat metal with a thin film barrier to protect against destruction by direct acid contact. Specific product selection will depend on the acid type and amount of product recommended will depend on metal type, contact time and application temperature.
StimVis™ Self-Diverting Acid is a gelled acid system. The system includes a polymer acid gelling agent, a metal crosslinker, an additive breaker and pH stabilizer.
Proper biocide selection and inclusion helps to ensure maximum production through prevention of microbial build up. Flotek offers both quick and delayed effect biocides, recommending solutions that are designed to enable maximum effectiveness.
Buffers are used to adjust the pH of the water to enable a stable crosslink. Specific product selection would depend on the pH range desired.
- The KCl substitutes are used to prevent the swelling of formation clays by freshwater. Specific product concentrations would depend on the type of clays and the fluid system.
- The Clay Stabilizers provide long-term protection against formation damage from clay swelling and/or migration and minimizes chemical handling requirements.
The Complex nano-Fluid® line of chemistries provide benefits for improving oil and gas condensate production by reducing breakdown pressures, reducing surface tension, aiding flowback of water-based frac fluids, and reducing formation damage created by phase trapping. Multiple formulations are available to suit the needs of a particular formation.
Liquid borate crosslinkers that help increase viscosity at high shear rate and elevated temperatures and can be added on the fly.
The multi-purpose defoamers can be used in acid, stimulation or cementing applications.
Fluid loss agents are designed to prevent leak off during stimulation treatments by keeping the fluid in the fracture for greater penetration and making the frac fluid system more efficient.
Foamers are used to create stable foams in frac fluids in order to stimulate liquid sensitive formations.
Friction reducers work by lowering the hydraulic horse power required to fracture a well. Used in non-gelled fracturing and acidizing treatments. Compatibility testing with other fluids in the system might need to be conducted for product selection.
Breakers function by breaking the crosslink and reducing the viscosity of the fluid.
Applications include as an acid retarder and foamer that produces high viscosity gels for fracture, matrix and foamed acidizing operations. The viscosity decreases as acid spends and it increases the stability of foamed acid or can be used as a foamer itself.
A premium grade guar that can be added on the fly and works by increasing the water’s viscosity in order to carry proppant. This product helps control fluid loss, lower friction pressure and can be cross-linked for higher viscosity.
H2S Scavengers are designed to be used in acid stimulation treatments to help prevent detrimental effects of H2S effects on acid corrosion inhibitors.
Iron Control products are used to prevent the precipitation of ferric iron (Fe3+) and/or ferrous iron (Fe2+). The products prevent formation of damaging iron precipitates that affect the performance of the other additives present and can reduce permeability.
Solvents are used to dissolve or disperse paraffin or asphaltenes and are used to clean other organic deposits of acid soluble material. Other applications include removal of pipe dope and oil based muds. These solvents are naturally derived and environmentally conscious.
Non-emulsifiers prevent emulsions being formed between crude oil and stimulation fluid. Compatibility testing with other fluids in the system might need to be conducted for product selection.
Flotek’s new patented line of materials, which optimize horsepower while minimizing potentially damaging components delivery to the reservoir. PrF® technology enables the polymer to invert rapidly and provide performance efficiency throughout the expected tubular contact time.
Scale Inhibitors inhibit formation of calcium sulfate, barium sulfate and calcium carbonate scales. Product can tolerate high concentrations of dissolved solids and calcium, and effective in concentrated brines.
Surfactants lower interfacial and surface tension and help to prevent water blocks. Water injection rates and removal of oil from solid surfaces can be improved.
